Diamond Comic Distributors is bringing back its Video Overship program for the fourth quarter of 2001.  This program allows retailers to sample videos (or stock them in more depth) at no risk.  Retailers who sign up for this program do not have to order any videos at all.  Diamond will select three or four titles per month and send one or two copies of each to participating stores.  Titles are announced in Dateline a week or two in advance so dealers know what titles to expect.  Retailers have sixty days to sell the videos, which can be either VHS tapes or DVDs, and can return any unsold videos to Diamond.  Accounts will not be billed for the items for a full sixty days, but retailers do have pay for freight on returns.

When Diamond ran this program before, the return rate was under 10%.  If your store does not carry DVDs or videos this is relatively risk-free way to test the waters.  Diamond will select the top-selling titles and formats based on pre-order activity.
