According to a Tokyopop representative, the company now has around 800 trade paperbacks in print, which makes it the leading publisher of comic trade paperbacks, as measured by product line. DC's line is #2 at around 700 titles (see 'Interview with DC Prez Paul Levitz, Part II'). Dark Horse is probably third, with around 575 comic book titles in print. Viz, which also has a substantial trade paperback backlist, did not respond to a request for information in time for this article.
Tokyopop's new #1 ranking in comic trade paperback backlist reflects both its total reliance on the book format for its publishing program and the rapid growth in popularity of manga in the U.S.
