Forbes has released its list of the top ten fictional characters (based on 2003 dollar revenues), and two anime properties and two Marvel properties are included in the list, along with Lord of the Rings, three Disney properties in the top five, and Viacom's Spongebob Squarepants.  Yu-Gi-Oh! (#6) was estimated to have accounted for $1.6 billion in retail sales last year, and Pokemon (#10) $825 million.  The Marvel properties were Spider-Man (#8, $1.3 billion) and Wolverine (X-Men, #9, $900 million).  The writers note that Hello Kitty, which would have been #3 at $4 billion in revenues in 2003, was not eligible because it was not introduced in a narrative story of some kind.
