Mayfair Games announced  the release of a major limited edition Settlers of Catan product at the recently concluded GAMA Trade Show -- the 10th Anniversary Settlers of Catan 3-D Special Edition Treasure Chest Set.  The Special Edition will be limited to initial orders, and will retail for $350 to $400.

This international edition will be released simultaneously around the world in October.  Settlers is currently produced in 21 languages; it's not clear at this point how many of those will have Special Edition versions.

The Special Edition consists of Settlers of Catan and Cities and Knights, with 19 three-dimensional hand-painted resin tiles, plus over 140 other hand-painted pieces, including settlements, cities, metropolis, city walls, knights, and roads.  The pieces will be shipped in a hardwood treasure chest, with felt-lined slots for the tiles and a wooden tray to hold pieces.

Final numbers are due from distributors by May 1st.

There are also other plans for Settlers this year.  The second quarter will see the release of several Settlers of Catan Card Game SKUs, including a new printing of the game which will be different due to the sixth expansion (barbarians and trade princes).  A box with just the sixth expansion, including revised cards, will also be sold.  And the sixth expansion will be added to the Expansion Set, which previously included five sets.

Mayfair will also release Catan Adventures:  Candamir the First Settlers in May, at a $49 MSRP.

And in the sales support arena, Mayfair has recently produced 'Using Settlers of Catan in the Classroom,' which outlines the 'seven skills that Settlers teaches,' an aid piece on how to teach skills such as probability and competitive problem-solving using Settlers of Catan.
