Nominations for the 2005 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards were announced on Thursday, the first posthumous awards for their namesake following Eisner's death in January (see 'In Memoriam:  Will Eisner').

The usual suspects were at the top of the publisher tallies, with DC accounting for 22 full nominations, Dark Horse for 16, Image for 10, and Fantagraphics for 8.  Wildstorm is beginning to find its voice at DC, with seven full nominations vs. 11 for DC's Vertigo imprint.

Brian K. Vaughan was the creator with the most nominations for his work; he had seven, five of them for his Wildstorm series Ex Machina.  Kyle Baker and John Cassady each had five nominations; and Joss Whedon, Eric Powell, and Stan Sakai each had four.
