Columbia TriStar Home Video has announced the July 26th release of Katsuhiro Otomo's Steamboy on DVD.  The retro 'steampunk' anime feature will be available in a 'director's cut' edition, which reportedly contains 21 minutes of footage that was edited out of the theatrical version of Steamboy released in the U.S.  The Steamboy Director's Cut regular edition will have an msrp of $26.99, but the Director's Cut will also be available in a Gift Set version, which will include the DVD, a collectible booklet, postcards and a mini-comic book featuring Otomo's artwork.   The Steamboy Gift Set has an msrp of $49.95.

 

Columbia has not released any information about possible extra features on the DVD, or whether the film will be available on the DVD with its original Japanese soundtrack (and English subtitles) as well as with the English language dub featuring Patrick Stewart and Anna Paquin.
