Geneon Entertainment has announced that its DVD release of the Appleseed movie, based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, has sold over 85,000 units since its release on May 10th.  While 85,000 units is not much when compared with enormous sales of The Incredibles DVD or The Chappelle Show, it is enough to catapult Appleseed to Top 10 status for anime DVDs released in 2005 and to indicate that the audience for science fiction anime continues to grow.  Yosuke Kobayashi, Geneon's CEO noted, 'American audiences are hungry for complex adult animation and Appleseed's record pace is an indication of the broadening appeal of the anime genre.'

The Appleseed anime features an arresting blend of 3D motion-capture computer animation and the latest in 2D character animation as well as a riveting soundtrack including contributions from techno DJ Paul Okenfold and Academy Award-winner Ryuich Sakamoto.
