Navarre subsidiary FUNimation Productions has announced the launching of the FUNimation Channel, a 24-hour digital network featuring programming from FUNimation's stable of anime productions, which includes all the Dragon Ball series, Yu Yu Hakusho, Kiddy Grade, Gunslinger Girl, Full Metal Alchemist, Fruits Basket, and many more.  Unlike ADV's The Anime Network, which remains a 'pay for play' 'video-on-demand channel, the FUNimation Channel was designed from the beginning as a linear network available to viewers as part of a cable package.    FUNimation is working with OlympuSAT, one of the leading distributors for independent programming in the United States, to provide the FUNimation Channel to local cable systems across the country.

A FUNimation spokesperson told ICv2 that the new network would not interfere with successful runs of FUNimation properties on established cable and satellite venues such as the Cartoon Network.  The programming for the nascent channel will be an evolving mix and will include programming from top-rated shows in Japan that have not been aired in the U.S.  More information will be available on the FUNimation Channel Website, which will launch within a few weeks.
