The Anime News Service is reporting that key anime director Satoshi Kon (Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent) will return to directing anime features with his next project, an adaptation of Yatsutaka Tsutsui's 1993 science fiction novel, Paprika.  After establishing himself with a series of brilliant anime features (Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers), Kon's most recent project was his first TV series, Paranoia Agent, which has received considerable TV exposure on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

Madhouse will produce Kon's Paprika, which is currently scheduled for release (in Japan) in late 2006.  Kon is co-writing the screenplay for the science fiction saga of a female detective who solves cases by entering the dreams of suspects along with Seishi Minakami (Boogiepop Phantom, Paranoia Agent).  Mashi Ando (Spirited Away, Paranoia Agent) is providing the character designs and Susumi Hirasawa (Berserk) is writing the score.
