The usually reliable TV Shows on DVD Website is reporting that Disney will announce that the 36-episode The Tick animated series will be released on DVD before the end of the year.  The Tick animated series, which quickly gained the undying loyalty of a fanatical following, debuted in 1994 and ran on the FoxKids Saturday morning animation block.  Disney acquired the series when the studio purchased the Fox Network's children's block.  According to TV Shows on DVD, Disney will likely release The Tick animated series in a multi-DVD set similar to their DuckTales and Rescue Rangers sets from 2005.

Townsend Coleman (Fraggle Rock) voiced the title character in the series, which was very faithful in spirit to the wonderfully satirical Tick comic book series by Ben Edlund.  Other voice talent of note included Rob Paulsen (Pinky and the Brain), who took over the role of The Tick's sidekick Arthur from Mickey Dolenz; Cam Clarke, who was terrific as the Batmanesque Die Fledermaus; Kay Lenz, who was equally good as American Maid; and Brad Garrett of Everybody Loves Raymond, who lent his deeply resonant bass tones to a couple of guest appearances.
