The CHUD (Cinematic Happenings Under Development) Website is reporting that Aeon Flux scribe Phil Hay and his writing partner Matt Manfredi are working on an adaptation of the Dark Horse mini-series R.I.P.D. for Wedding Crashers' director David Dobkin.  The 4-issue Dark Horse mini-series written by Peter Lenkov was published in 1999-2000 and features the exploits of Nick Cruz, an afterworld cop who makes sure that the dead and other supernatural beings don't bother the living.

Hay told CHUD that he sees the property as similar to Ghostbusters and Men in Black as an action comedy with a particular emphasis on the comedic elements.  Dobkin's next project is a Vince Vaughn Santa Claus movie, so R.I.P.D. will have to wait until at least 2007.
