The Wall Street Journal did a major piece on product placement in comics at the Big Two comic publishers on Tuesday, including two new deals to place cars in comic stories.

DC's new title Rush City, a six-shot that launches in July, will prominently feature a Pontiac Solstice as the vehicle driven by The Rush, the title character.  Dave McKillips, DC VP of advertising and custom publishing was quoted in the article as saying that, 'The car will be as essential to the character as the Aston Martin was to James Bond.'

And Marvel has just signed a deal with Dodge to place the Dodge Caliber in its cityscapes over the next four to eight months.

Both deals are part of print ad deals which will place car display ads in comics for the first time.

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel picked up the news on Tuesday night's show, holding up a mock-up of the cover of Action #1 showing Superman holding up a Pontiac Solstice, which he attributed to DC going back place products in previously published comics.
