Variety is reporting that Bill Kong, producer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero is set to produce a live action version of the anime feature Blood: The Last Vampire.   The live action adaptation will be directed by Ronny Yu (Fearless, Freddy vs. Jason) and shot largely in English.  Yu has been interested in directing a live action version of Blood: The Last Vampire since 2003 (see 'Live Action Blood: The Last Vampire'), and now it appears that he will get his chance.

Production I.G. is responsible for the stylish Blood: The Last Vampire anime, a taut 48-minute exercise in horror set in an American airbase in Japan during the Vietnam War. Blood: The Last Vampire, which was written by Mamoru Oshii, was the fastest selling anime DVD in the history of Manga Entertainment when it was released in 2001 (see 'Blood: The Last Vampire Sets Manga Record').  The stylish Blood:The Last Vampire anime has inspired video game and manga adaptations, and Production I.G. has also announced Blood+, a TV anime series based on the feature film.
