According to Neilson VideoScan numbers the Marvel-based Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther direct-to-DVD animated feature debuted at number five on the list of best-selling DVDs for the week ending August 13th.  The second in a series of animated direct-to-DVD features produced by Lionsgate and based on Marvel characters, the new Avengers release continues to demonstrate the viability of this method of distribution, which allows the animated films to follow the storylines of comic books with a greater deal of fidelity than animated programming designed for TV, which typically has to meet children's programming broadcast standards.

The V for Vendetta DVD, which debuted at #1 on the VideoScan charts (see 'V for Vendetta Tops DVD Sales') slipped to number 2 during its second week of release and then dropped to number five during its third outing -- indicating that it is doing very well indeed on DVD.
