FUNimation has announced the February release of the first of six DVDs collecting the 25-episode Peach Girl shojo anime series, which was produced by Studio Comet and aired in Japan in 2005.  Based on the manga by Miwa Ueda (published in Japan by Kodansha and in the U.S. by Tokyopop), Peach Girl is a high school drama, whose protagonist (Momo) is stereotyped (because of her dark skin) by her classmates and constantly sabotaged by her supposed 'best friend.'  FUNimation plans on releasing the first Peach Girl DVD, which will include 5 episodes, on February 20th in both a Regular Edition (MSRP $29.98) and a Starter Set (MSRP $39.98).

FUNimation, which has released other shojo anime including Fruits Basket and Kodocha, is also putting out another shojo series, Rumbling Hearts in December.  The increase in the number of shojo anime releases can officially be considered a trend now especially with the debut of Viz Media's Shojo Beat Home Video line (Full Moon) and Geneon's Kyo Kara Maoh! and Paradise Kiss (see 'Geneon to Launch 3 New Anime').
