Nelvana Entertainment and Spin Master Toys have announced a co-production agreement with the Japanese companies Sega Toys, TMS Entertainment, and Japan Vistec to create Bakugan, a multi-media entertainment franchise targeting boys 8-12.  Plans for Bakugan include an anime series (to be produced by TMS and Japan Vistec) as well as an action game featuring cards and marble-like balls that can transform into multiple characters.

The game is a key part of the Bakugan strategy.  It will allow players to compete against various opponents, select from a wide range of strategy options and, combined with card game features, will attempt to create an entertainment experience with depth and long-term potential. An immersive Website and merchandise will follow the launch of the Bakugan anime and game, with Sega Toys handling toy sales in Japan and Spin Master taking care of North America and Europe.

Spin Master will help design the Bakugan characters along with Sega Toys with TMS and Japan Vistec producing the anime while Nelvana will manage broadcast sales and related rights globally (except in Asia where TMS will manage broadcasting).
