Sunday's New York Times Book Review includes two pieces on graphic novels.  The first, by David Hadju, discusses An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons, and True Stories edited by Ivan Brunetti; and the other is a guided tour of holiday selections by Douglas Wolk.

Hadju praises Brunetti's choices in An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons, and True Stories, and suggests that the time has come for comics and graphic novels to be fully recognized as a great modern art and literary form.

Wolk includes thoughtful recommendations of Will Eisner's New York: Life in the Big City (Norton); Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli's DMZ: On the Ground (DC/Vertigo); Guy Delisle's Shenzhen: A Travelogue From China (Drawn & Quarterly); George Herriman's Krazy & Ignatz: Shifting Ands Dusts Its Cheeks in Powdered Beauty (Fantagraphics); and Marijane Satrapi's Chicken with Plums (Pantheon).
