According to Variety, the two Death Note films have done so well in Japan (see ''Death Note 2' Opens Big in Japan'), a spin-off film is in the works for next year.

The first two Death Note features have grossed nearly $60 million in Japan so far and the Death Note manga has sold 23 million copies.

As previously reported in ICv2, the Death Note manga from Viz is also a consistent top seller in the U.S. and the anime series is expected to air in the States sometime in 2007 (see ''Death Note' Goes Global').
