Top Shelf, the American publisher that handles U.S. sales of the From Hell graphic novel, provided a recent update on the effect the movie's success (see 'From Hell Wins Box Office') had on book sales.  We noted in our year-end coverage that movies had been a big force in selling more than one small press graphic novel last year (see 'Top Movie/TV Merchandise Stories of 2001'), and the numbers are bearing that out.  According to the Top Shelf announcement, From Hell was the best-selling graphic novel in the book trade and has now sold over 110,000 copies, generating over $4 million at retail.  The title has also had strong international sales and has been translated into ten different languages.

Top Shelf also announced that the From Hell DVD will have a ten-minute segment on how the movie was based on the graphic novel, which should provide further impetus to sales.
