U.S. rights for the live action Dororo feature, produced by Japanese company TBS, have been acquired by Universal Pictures.  The film opens in Japan next weekend.

The film is based on the 1967 manga by Osamu Tezuka, which also inspired a 26-episode 1969 anime series.  The story stars a female warrior raised as a man and her help for a young samurai seeking to reclaim 48 missing body parts given to demons by his father.
