Shawn Hamilton of The Great Escape in Nashville, Tennessee feels that the giveaway comics that publishers produce for Free Comic Book Day should be appropriate for all ages:

Over the last couple of days, I have been getting ready for FCBD, then I get to the part of the promotion I don't like -- checking to see which FCBD comics that I paid for that I can't give away due to language or content!  I can't understand why several of these publishers don't seem to understand what FCBD is about.  Is anyone else comfortable giving away the Avatar FCBD sampler with the inverted crucified Christ image to the general public or the Keenspot book with the feature 'Purple Pussy' that has a doll saying that 'I take it up the -------!' (the word was blacked-out by the publisher) and it just keeps coming, the excessive gore in the Robocop book or the emotional/physical/sexual abuse in the 100% Guaranteed comic.  I know as well as anybody that comics aren't just for kids... but couldn't they be for just this one day?
