Charlie Platt of Anime Mountain in Bend, Oregon saw our recent article on Tokyopop's push into the mass market (see 'Tokyopop Invades the Mass Market') and offers his view:

While on the one hand this is a money making move for them, they seem to forget who made them big in the first place.

As an 'all anime (only anime)-all the time' retailer, I have the product knowledge to provide better customer service. I sell at a discount to compete with Waldenbooks already.  I have dedicated space for Tokyopop product.  I read what I sell.  I've been in retail for over 20 years.  My customers are pretty loyal and I will continue to 'fight the good fight.'  I just hope that Wal-Mart has the same MSRP printed on the back of what they are selling.

Thanks Tokyopop for another show of faith and support to the independent anime specialty retailers.  Why do you seem to want to crush us?  We helped make Tokyopop (and Mixx Manga before TP) a hit.
