Comic Sales Slip in AprilContinuing DeclinesPublished: 05/20/2008, Last Updated: 06/17/2008 06:08pm Comic and graphic novel sales to comic stores dropped 3% in April 2008 vs. the year ago period. Graphic novel sales dropped 7%, a heavier drop than the 2% drop in comic periodical sales.
These declines follow declines in Q1, when comic and graphic novel sales dropped 5% vs. Q1 2007 (comic periodicals were down, graphic novels were up for the period).
Once again, the year ago period just seemed to have more good titles, with the Fallen Son titles, the end of Civil War, and DC’s World War III all accounting for significant comic dollars in 2007. Graphic novels also had tough comparables, with the launch of the Civil War trades hitting in April 2007.
