Variety is reporting that X-Files is ending its nine-season run of new shows on Fox in May.  The series finale will be a two-part episode written by creator Chris Carter.  Carter was quoted in the article as saying he'd 'love' to have David Duchovny return for the final episode.  This announcement will probably spark renewed interest in the show in the run-up to the finale, and the property will live on in syndication, where it has been the top-ranked off-network hour since its bow in 1997, and in the movies (a second feature is in the works).

Despite its age and somewhat lower ratings this year, the property continues to drive sales in pop culture stores.  The X-Files Season Four DVD Set was the #1 movie/TV product on our Top 10 Cool lists for November (see 'Top 10 Cool Movie/TV Products').  Moore is now producing toys, with the second series of figures just announced (see 'Moore Announces Second Series of X-Files Figures').  Inkworks' cards based on the show's eighth season will be released next month (see 'Inkworks Thinks Small Screen').
