France will enter Persepolis as its candidate for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Variety has reported.  The Academy's rules require that a version with English subtitles be available for the film to be eligible in this category.  The choice of Persepolis as the French entry follows the film's award of a shared Cannes Jury Prize (see 'Persepolis Wins Cannes Jury Prize').

The English language version is opening in the States on Christmas Day (see 'Persepolis Animated Feature'), which also makes that version eligible for a nomination in the Best Animated Feature category.

So English-speaking fans will have access to the film two ways, at least when the inevitable DVD special edition is released:  the French language version with English subtitles, and the version with English-speaking voice actors.
