Variety is reporting that Pras Michel of the Fugees has obtained film and TV rights to Dark Oz, a comic book series created by Aaron Denenberg, Ralph Griffith and Stuart Kerr and originally published by Caliber Comics.  The comic presents a darker, more Gothic version of L. Frank Baum's public domain classic with an older version of Dorothy Gale interacting with the familiar gallery of characters from the Wizard of Oz. 

Michel is planning to produce a series of three live action films based on the Dark Oz comics and star as the Scarecrow.  Michel, who produced the upcoming release The Mutant Chronicles (which is based on a roleplaying game and stars Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman. see 'Mutant Chronicles Movie Moves Ahead'),  plans to start production on the first Dark Oz film late this year.
