According to DVD Times Universal will release the live action adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s Dororo on DVD ($27.98) on September 23rd, 2008.  Set during the anarchic Warring States period, Dororo is the bloody tale of a warrior who must fight an assortment of demons to reclaim his 48 missing body parts and get revenge on the father who betrayed him.  Vertical is releasing the Dororo manga here in the States (Volume 2 is due out next week and Volume 3 in August).  The live action Dororo movie debuted in Japan in 2007 (see “Dororo Headed for the U.S.”).

Also on September 23rd Universal is releasing another Japanese live action film, Midnight Eagle, a taut thriller about a race between Japanese defense forces and agents from an unnamed country to reach the wreckage of a stealth bomber that crashed in Japan (see “Universal to Release Midnight Eagle”).
