The initial set of Privateer Press’s Monsterpocalypse CMG will be in stores October 10th and feature full organized play support, including support kits for in-store tournaments and a dedicated web site.

Three different booster products will be available at launch. The Monsterpocalypse Starter Set contains everything one player needs to play: eight fully assembled, pre-painted plastic figures (one monster and his “hyper” form, two buildings, and four units), 10 action dice, 10 power dice, four boost dice, rulebook, play map, reference card, health tracker, and walkthrough. It retails for $24.99. The Monster Pack, which contains a monster and his master “hyper” form, and the Unit Pack, which contains four smaller pieces and a building retail for $12.99 each. Other related products (see “More ‘Monsterpocalypse’ on the Way”) will be available at about the same time.

As far as organized play support goes, Privateer will offer tournament support kits that include prizes both for the tournament organizer and the participants in the form of preview figures from future sets. In addition, Privateer has launched a web site for OP support and for building a community around the game. Players, tournament organizers, and retailers can list and find tournaments and stores in their area and keep track of their accomplishments by collecting “merits” (described as “similar to Xbox Live’s achievement system”).

The next, as-yet-unnamed expansion set for Monsterpocalypse will be out in the Spring of 2009 and will include “a city famous for its Hollywood monster battles,” a popular fan request.
