Square Enix has announced that the Blu-ray edition of the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children anime feature film will be released in Japan on April 16th.  The Blu-ray Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete will, according to AnimeNation, feature 30 minutes of new and revised footage not found in prior Advent Children releases.

So far Sony has not released a date for the released of the Advent Children Blu-ray in the U.S., but it will surely be released here.  Sony’s first Advent Children DVD came out in North America in April of 2006 and quickly sold some 1.4 million units in the U.S. and Europe, becoming the best-selling anime release of the year (see “1.4 Million Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children DVDs”).  A Collector’s Edition of Advent Children, which was released in 2007 was a top-five anime release of that year, so the Blu-ray edition is likely to be one of the best-selling anime discs in that format.  According to Variety, more than 9 million Blu-ray players have been sold in North America through the end of 2008.
