Universal is going all out to raise awareness of its Scott Pilgrim vs. The World movie at the San Diego Comic-Con.  The Scott Pilgrim film, which is based on the series of graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley, is due to be released in the U.S. on August 13th.  The film has already had a major effect on graphic novel sales in June as the five Scott Pilgrim graphic novels took five of the top eleven spots on the BookScan graphic novel list (see “Scott Pilgrim Grows Large in Bookstores”).  The sixth and final Scott Pilgrim volume, Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, is due out for Comic-Con (see “Scott Pilgrim Vol.6 in July”).

Starting on Thursday, July 22nd, Universal will dedicate the area in and around the Hilton Gaslamp across from the Convention Center as “Pilgrim” space to create an immersive experience for convention goers with a special DJ room where appropriately hip music will dominate and a T-shirt stand where cast members will help create shirts for fans.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick and director Edgar Wright will all take turns creating shirts for fans.  The Scott Pilgrim movie will also be a major focus of the Universal Studio panel, which will be held in Hall “H” on Thursday afternoon.  In addition to Wright and the Pilgrim cast, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who are working on a science fiction comedy film for Uni about two geeks who go to a comic convention, will be at the panel, which will reunite the creative trinity (Wright, Pegg, & Frost) behind Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
