Ryan Reynolds is set to star in an adaptation of the Dark Horse mini-series R.I.P.D. with Robert Schwentke directing.  Reynolds is currently shooting the Green Lantern tentpole for Warners and, according to Deadline Hollywood, he will star in The Change Up and Safe House before taking on R.I.P.D., which will start shooting late next summer.

Schwentke, who directed the adaptation of Warren Ellis’ Red, which is slated to be released in October, has been mentioned in conjunction with a number of comic book-based projects including the Wolverine sequel (see “Wolverine Sequel Helmers Narrowed to 2”).

In R.I.P.D., which is based on the comic by Peter Lenkov, Reynolds will play Nick Cruz, a murdered policeman who takes a job in an afterworld cop in order to stop the man that killed him.  Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who wrote Aeon Flux and Clash of the Titans, adapted Lenkov’s comic book series (see “Aeon Flux Writer Gets R.I.P.D”).
