R&R Games has revealed that New Haven, a Euro-style, civilization-building board game designed by Kevin Worden and Brian Leet, will debut at Essen. Set in colonial New England, New Haven (MSRP $29.95) is a tile-laying game with a drafting component.
Players place tiles in order to exploit resources (timber, stone) or raise crops and livestock while constructing buildings in their villages to earn population points. The player who builds the biggest and most prosperous settlement by the end of ten turns is the winner. But New Haven is not necessarily about producing the “most” of anything. In fact the game rewards players who can match production with consumption with precision.
New Haven works well with 2, 3, or 4 players, ages 10 and up. The game, which features art by Dennis Lohausen, comes with a "Side B" board for a nine-turn version of New Haven with some twists. The rulebook also includes variant rules that can make the game either more forgiving or more strategic.
R&R Games will be debuting New Haven at Essen with a hobby game release set for late in 2013.. The designers will be at the R&R Games booth in Essen to sign games, and a special Charters expansion set will be available at the show.
R&R Games recently revealed two other Q4 releases, the card games Plunder and Unnatural Selection (see "'Plunder & Unnatural Selection'").
