Warner Brothers Pictures has released a new trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which contains nearly three minutes of Middle-earth drama.

The first 40 seconds contain a poetic, ominous voiceover regarding the journey by Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans).  This is followed by a sweeping view of a wreaked city at 0:55, which is revealed to be the namesake of the film: The Desolation of Smaug.  There are several shots of Tauriel, an encounter with the elves of Mirkwood and their Elven king Thranduil (Lee Pace), and a quick glimpse of Beorn (Mikael Persbrandt) in bear form at 2:18.
