According to 'Coming Attractions' at Cinescape Online, New Line Cinema has optioned the popular Y: The Last Man comic series from Vertigo.  Written by Brian K. Vaughn, Y: The Last Man is an exciting science fiction series whose protagonist, Yorick Brown, is the last living male on Earth. The first Y: The Last Man trade paperback collection ranked #6 on Diamond's list of graphic novel sales for March -- a very impressive performance for such a new property -- and Y: The Last Man was mentioned as a big seller by nearly every retailer we talked to in a recent survey for an upcoming ICv2 publication on graphic novels.  Although New Line has not formally announced the acquisition of the property, it certainly does make sense that the studio would want to pick up one of the hottest new comic properties to emerge in the last year.

Cinescape also reported that David Goyer, screenwriter of the Blade films, the new Batman film (see 'David Goyer To Write Batman Film'), and current writer (with Geoff Johns) on the Justice Society of America comic for DC, will be one of the producers of Y: The Last Man.
